Busy Weekend

So here's my to-do list for the weekend:
  • Finalize my Poetry Face-Off poem before I record it Sunday at CBC
  • Write a paper on photographer Robert Frank for my film class
  • Complete an application for the Winnipeg Film Group's Production Fund, including editing a short film script I've been working on
  • Do a bit of work for the NSI FilmExchange, which is next week - I'll be helping them with media stuff during the festival
  • Hang out at the 24-hour Freedom to Read event
If I have time, I'd love to send off an app to the Canada Council for a new media project, but perhaps that'd be overkill??

Current Events

I've posted my finished project from the 48-hour film on my
vlog. A fun experience, and it was great to see what other people came up with - a wide range of projects - from fart jokes to murder to a French chanson!

I now know the date for the CBC Poetry Face-off: Tuesday, February 28, at the site formerly known as Academy Bar and Grill, now Bar and Oven (414 Academy). Should be a fun night - the other poets are all great.

The date for Girls! Girls! Girls! has been changed to Sunday March 12 and I believe Ariel will be performing too. She has also apparently signed us up for the Freedom to Read Marathon - an annual tradition.

Ariel and I went to see Zachariah Wells and Lori Cayer read on Saturday. Really enjoyed both their work - especially Wells' imagery of battling cold dark winter. But for the second event in a row, a disappointing crowd. Gotta get some poetry flash mobs happening in Winnipeg!

Tonight I'm going to see Philip Glass - a personal thrill. I'm taking my groovy piano teacher, so it'll be a treat for us both.

48 Hour Film Project

So to celebrate shipping The Coffee Maker off to its first film festival (CFC's Worldwide Short Film Fest), I'm participating in the Winnipeg Film Group's 48-hour Film Contest. A small-scale project this time, just me in my studio doing a digital-photo animation. Will post over at my vlog when complete, and maybe a few stills over here.

Will be fun to see what other people come up with - we all met at a kick-off last night - about 12 or 14 projects it looks like - we'll share our projects tomorrow night.

Bettter get going - less than 36 hours remaining!

Upcoming

Sorry for not updating recently.

Here's two events coming up that I will be involved in:

CBC Poetry FaceOff - I've been invited to be one of the 5 Winnipeg participants. Should be a fun night. I'll post location and date/time when I find out. Probably the last week in February.

Girls! Girls! Girls! - March 9, 6:30 p.m. Gas Station Theatre.
An international Women's Week event and fundraiser for the Gas Station Theatre. I will be reading poetry, but other women will be performing in other ways. The themes are apparently Transformational Alchemy and/or Something Bawdy!

I'll post a link to that if there is one - an internet search provided links to many other "events"...

In film news, I'm shipping out my first festival application this week (Ottawa World-wide Shorts). Will certainly keep you updated! I'm very pleased with the sound mix by Saul Henteleff. A big thank you to him and to my DoP Andrew Forbes, who did most of the colour correction.

I attended the first two nights of the Winnipeg Symphony's New Music Festival this weekend. Great music, and last night was the premiere of David Scott's choral piece Tranquility and Order using Ariel Gordon's text. Congrats Ariel and David!
